How to become an official:
|
1. Register for free with the UHSAA:
Click HERE and create an account. Register with the UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association). 3. Pass the Test:
You'll receive a packet in the mail prior to your selected sport's season(s). The packet includes a rules book, case book, officials manual, and testing instructions. Complete the open book rules test (Part 1 Test) before the season begins or as soon as possible before the due date listed. Officials must obtain a minimum score of 80% to pass the Part 1 Test. If a failing grade occurs, then one free retake is allowed. 4. Attend a Rules Clinic:
The UHSAA conducts rules clinics before specific sports seasons. The rules clinic consists of new rules, NFHS points of emphasis and their interpretation for the specific sport. The dates will be listed on the UHSAA website. A meeting schedule will accompany the mailed packet. An Internet Clinic will be available for officials and coaches also. 5. Get Official Apparel:
Purchase the correct gear for your sport at Out West Officials. Ask an association leader, sport supervisor, or another official for help purchasing the right equipment if you're unsure. You can email the CUOA anytime with questions. Proper apparel will also be discussed in state and local association meetings. Thank you for joining us in this most important and rewarding avocation. If further questions arise, please contact us. |
