Become a new official by following these steps:
![]() 1. Register with the UHSAA:
Click HERE to go to ArbiterSports. Please create an account and register with the UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association). Registration is FREE for first-time officials. ![]() 2. Notify the CUOA:
After successfully registering with the UHSAA, please email the CUOA to let us know which sports you plan to officiate. Please include a call-back phone number in your email. ![]() 3. Pass the Test:
You'll receive a packet in the mail prior to each sports season. Inside the packet, you'll find a rules book, case book, and officials manual. Please study for and complete the open book rules test (Part 1 Test) before the season begins or as soon as possible before the due date listed. The test is online. Officials must obtain a minimum score of 80% to pass the Part 1 Test. If a failing grade occurs, then one free retake is allowed. A fee of $15.00 is charged for any additional retakes. ![]() 4. Attend a Rules Clinic:
A UHSAA staff member or their designee will conduct one new rules clinic before the season for the sports of football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball. The dates will be listed on the website and a meeting schedule will accompany the mailed packet. An Internet Clinic will be available for officials and coaches until the first day of the Part 2 Test. The rules clinic consists of new rules, NFHS points of emphasis and their interpretation for the specific sport. This is mandatory in order to be a certified official. ![]() 5. Get Official Apparel:
Purchase the correct gear for your sport at Out West Officials. Ask an association leader, sport supervisor, or another official for help purchasing the right equipment if you're unsure.
